55th Annual Navajo Nation Fair In Window Rock

The 55th Annual Navajo Nation Fair parade last Saturday in Window Rock, Arizona drew huge crowds.

More than 150,000 were expected to attend the festivities, which included a free barbecue, Indian rodeo, exhibits, 4-H Junior Livestock, fine arts competition.

Fairgoers also enjoyed a baby contest, a Waylon Jennings concert, frybread contest, home arts & science contest, horticulture exhibit, Navajo song & dance, powwow, Miss Navajo Nation Pageant, senior livestock and senior rodeo.

Jolyana Begay Named Miss Navajo Nation 2001-2002 at the Fair.

Jolyana Begay is twenty years old from Rabbitbrush,New Mexico. She is of the Tachii’nii (Red Running Into the Water People Clan) born for the Tsi’naajinii (Black Streak Wood People Clan). Her maternal grandfather is of the Tl’aashchi’i (Red-Cheek Bottom People Clan) and her paternal grandfather is of the Ye’ii Tachii’nii (Giant People of the Red Running Into the Water People Clan). Her parents are John and Elsie Begay.

Jolyana graduated from Window Rock High School in 1999 and is currently a student at Dine College, pursuing a degree in teaching the Navajo language.
