16th Annual West Best Rodeo Entertains Winslow Audiences

The 16th Annual West Best Rodeo was dedicated to Raymond Perry (l) and George Stegmeir.

After the crowning of the Queen, Princess and Junior Princess, the rodeo’s dedicatees Raymond Perry and George Stegmeir were recognized for their special efforts to promote the Winslow Jaycees as well as the sport of rodeo.

Norman and Beverly Phillips from Gilbert, Ariz. were special guests who were celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary in Winslow by spending the day at La Posada and attending the rodeo that evening.

Sisters Jennifer Steigelman, from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and Melissa Dicker, from San Francisco, California, decided to vacation together in Sedona and decided to take a short trip here to Winslow for the rodeo. The two are rodeo fans and have been to several rodeos in other states, but this was their first Arizona Rodeo.

After all the special guests were recognized, Beth Carlson treated the audience and competitors to a beautiful performance of the Star Spangled Banner. After the performance, the events finally got underway. Over 200 contestants competed in nine events all vying for the top points or times.

The winners were not officially announced until after the Mail’s presstime. Check next week’s Winslow Mail for official results.

The Winslow Jaycees would like to thank their major sponsors: The Winslow Mail, The City of Winslow, The Winslow Chamber of Commerce, Dale Klein & Golden Eagle Distributors, A.D. Patel and Super 8 Motel, Basha’s, The Reminder and The Casper Baca Rodeo Company.
