Pondering the Pigskin

The Arizona Cardinals (2-3) defeated the Kansas City Chiefs (1-5) 24-16 on Sunday in Tempe. The Chiefs led at the intermission, but Arizona rallied to take a 24-9 lead and held on for the victory. The Cardinals will play the Dallas Cowboys (1-4) in Dallas on Oct. 27. The Cowboys had a bye week after picking up their first win of the year against Washington on Oct. 25.

The Arizona Wildcats (3-4, 0-4) led the Washington Huskies (5-1, 3-1) until the final 13 seconds of their contest at Seattle before seeing victory slip through their grasp in the 31-28 Huskies win. Actually, it was Washington quarterback Cody Pickett who evaded the grasps of the Wildcats and avoided a sack to slip into the end zone for the deciding touchdown. The Wildcats will host the USC Trojans (2-5, 1-3) on Saturday. The Trojans, who have struggled this season, fell to Notre Dame 26-16 on Saturday.

The Arizona State Sun Devils (4-2, 1-2) defeated the disappointing Oregon State Beavers (2-4, 1-3) 41-24 on Saturday in Tempe for their first PAC-10 Conference win. The Devils scored 21 fourth period points and turned a 24-20 deficit into the 41-24 victory. On Saturday, the Devils will host the Washington Huskies, fresh from their conquest of Arizona.

The Northern Arizona University Lumberjacks (5-2, 2-2) spotted the Montana Grizzlies (6-1, 3-0) a 31-0 first half lead and fell 38-27 despite scoring 27 points in the second half. The Lumberjacks will meet the Montana State Bobcats (4-3, 3-0) at Bozeman on Saturday. The Bobcats lost to a powerful Washington State Cougars team 53-28 on Thursday.
