Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Tuba City for Family Harmony, Inc. will sponsor a Candle Light Vigil/Walk Against Domestic Violence Wednesday, October 17, 2001 at 6 p.m. The walk will start at the west parking lot of the Tuba City Indian Medical Center and end at the Tuba City Truck Stop Café. Thanksgiving Food Boxes

The Salvation Army will be accepting applications for Thanksgiving food boxes Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon starting October 22 until November 9 (while supply lasts). Sign-ups will be at the Family Service Office located at 507 N. Humphreys Street in Flagstaff. A picture I.D. for head of household, Social Security cards for each member of the household, and proof of residency will be required. Breast Cancer Awaremess Walk

The Breast Cancer Awareness Walk, sponsored by Navajo Nation Breast & Cervical Cancer Prevention Program and Tuba City Health Promotion Program, will be held Tuesday, October 23, 2001. Red Ribbon Week Activities

Red Ribbon Community Health Fair will be held October 24, 2001 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Kayenta Boys & Girls Club building (formerly Kayenta Field House). Special Olympics

Diné /Hopi Nations Special Olympics is having their monthly meeting at Staff Development Center (next to the Chinle Kindergarten Center) in Chinle, Ariz. Thursday, Oct. 25, 2001. Acothley Downs Horse Race will be held Saturday, October 20, 2001 at Rare Metals, 6 miles east of Tuba City. Post time is 2 p.m. (DST). Bring your lawn chairs and binoculars. There will be a footrace at the end of the horse race.

Free Poetry Contest Open To Flagstaff Area Residents

The International Library of Poetry has announced that $58 thousand in prizes will be awarded this year in the International Open Poetry Contest. Second Annual Grand Canyon Cowboy Poets Gathering

Cowboy and Cowgirl poets will meet for the second annual Grand Canyon “Hole in the Ground” Cowboy Poetry & Music gathering November 2 – 4, 2001 in the Village of Tusayan. Coconino County Artisans and Craftsmen Sought For Fine Craft Exhibit

Coconino County artisans and craftsmen are invited to submit entries for the upcoming fine crafts exhibition, Elemental Expressions: From the Hands of Artisans.
