Homecoming 2001 Celebrated By Winslow Students And Alumni

Homecoming King Anthony Carter and Queen Kimbery Garcia at Thursday’s Homecoming Assembly.

The ceremony began with the Support Squad performing the traditional spirit routine Horse.

Jeff Kirkland, WHS alumni, sang the national anthem followed by welcome speeches by WHS principal John Henling and Kimberly Garcia, student body president.

The WHS Support Squad, which consists of cheerleaders, pom teams members and mat maids, were next in the program treating the audience to a Unity performance including cheers, dance and “pound” routines.

The dedicatees for Homecoming 2001 were Loy Engelhardt and John Henling. Englehardt, who is know as the Voice of the Bulldogs, and Henling, high school principal, were recognized for their unwavering support of WHS over the years.

Brenda Hayes Graham and Mary Alice Hayes performed God Bless America and, in accordance with a long-standing tradition, WHS’s Alma Mater. They were accompanied by the WHS Band.

Coaches of the three fall sports (football, cross country, and volleyball) presented their teams to the crowd and gave a brief history of the teams’ season and what to look for in the futures.

On Friday, Oct. 5, the traditional Homecoming Parade hit the streets of Winslow. Featured in the parade were the Support Squads, fall sports teams, class floats, alumni and Winslow Fire Department.
