Bulldog Cagers Open Season Tuesday

The Winslow High School Bulldogs boys’ basketball team will open the 2001 season with a non-conference game against the Payson Longhorns at Winslow on Tuesday. Winslow finished the 2000 campaign with a 13-14 record and finished third in the Enchantment Region. Payson is a member of the 3A East Region.

The Bulldogs will participate in a controlled scrimmage at Sinagua High School in Flagstaff on Friday against that 4A team.

Winslow’s first road game will be played on Nov. 27 at Snowflake.

The Bulldogs will host the Ames Ford Shootout Invitational Tournament on Nov. 29, 30 and Dec. 1.

The first Enchantment Region games of the season will be played on Dec. 4 at Winslow between the Bulldogs and the Greyhills Academy Knights and on Dec. 6 at Ganado between the Bulldogs and the Ganado Hornets.

Winslow will participate in the Pepsi Invitational Tournament at Flagstaff High School on Dec. 12, 13 and 14.

Enchantment Region games on Dec. 18 at Holbrook with the Holbrook Roadrunners and on Dec. 21 at Winslow with the Tuba City Warriors will complete the 2001 portion of the schedule.

The Bulldogs will open the 2002 portion of their schedule with a non-conference game at Payson against the Payson Longhorns.

The next three games are Enchantment Region contests in Winslow against the Window Rock Scouts on Jan. 11, at Kayenta against the Monument Valley Mustangs on Jan. 12 and at Winslow against the Ganado Hornets on Jan. 15.

A non-conference game at Winslow against the St. Johns Redskins will be played on Jan. 17.

The balance of the regular season will consist of seven Enchantment Region games. Winslow will play the Tuba City Warriors at Tuba City on Jan. 19, the Holbrook Roadrunners at Winslow on Jan. 24, the Hopi Bruins at Winslow on Jan. 26, the Monument Valley Mustangs at Winslow on Feb. 1, the Window Rock Scouts at Window Rock on Feb. 2, the Greyhills Academy Knights at Tuba City on Feb. 5 and the Hopi Bruins at Polacca on Feb. 9.

The regional tournament will be played on Feb. 12 and 13 at the homes of the higher seeds and at Greyhills Academy on Feb. 15 and 16.

The state tournament will be played at Northern Arizona University at Flagstaff on Feb. 19 and 20 and at America West Arena in Phoenix on Feb. 22 and 23.
