Pondering the Pigskin

The Arizona Cardinals (2-5) wasted another chance to make a move towards the play-offs in the weak NFL East Division, losing 21-7 to the Philadelphia Eagles (4-3) at Tempe on Sunday. Injuries and an ineffective offense continued to plague the Cardinals. The New York Giants (4-4) will be in Tempe on Sunday following a thrilling 27-24 comeback win over the Dallas Cowboys (2-5). The Cardinals have lost two straight games to struggling NFL East teams and are close to playing themselves out of play-off consideration.

The Arizona Wildcats (4-5, 1-5) got their first PAC-10 victory with a 38-14 win over the hapless California Golden Bears (0-8, 0-6). The ‘Cats will host the Stanford Cardinal (5-2, 4-2) on Saturday. Stanford fell 42-28 to a good Washington State Cougars (8-1, 5-1).

The Arizona State Sun Devils (4-4, 4-1) lost 42-24 to a good Oregon Ducks (8-1, 5-1) team and has the unenviable task of taking on the Washington State Cougars and their potent attack on Saturday in Tempe.

The Northern Arizona Lumberjacks (7-2, 4-2) picked up an important Big Sky victory with a 42-33 win over Eastern Washington (5-3, 2-3). Marcus King had three touchdowns to lead the Lumberjacks. NAU will host Sacramento State (2-7, 1-4) on Saturday. Sacramento State lost to Cal State Northridge 49-36 in their last outing.
