The celebration of Black History Month at Bonnie Brennan was a great success. Parents, grandparents and people from across the community came to listen to great mucis and learn about African American heritage. The luncheon for the staff that preceded the concert was catered by church members and friends of Rita Dunigan.

The Rev. Clark gave a blessing and read a Martin Luther King, Jr. poem. The God's gift Youth Choir sang "Prejudice. Brenda and Mary Alice Hayes sang the Black National Anthem. The central performance of the afternoon, the Tommy Dukes Blues Band, was so popular the crowd would not let them stop. The members of the band all contributed their time and talents. Three took off from jobs in Flagstaff and drummer Steve Zukowski came from his job with the city to join Tommy on stage. Rita Dunigan reported that "the people came right out of the stand and they danced. The crowd would not let him go!"
