Lady Bulldogs play at Kingman, Blue Ridge

Lady Bulldogs 3-2 at Kingman Invitational

The Winslow Lady Bulldogs softball team won three games and lost two at the Kingman Invitational Tournament on March 10 and 11. The results left the Lady Bulldogs with a record of 7-3 for the season.

Winslow scored seven runs on only two hits in the second inning on their way to a 9-2 win over the Bagdad Lady Sultans in their first contest. Joanna Panana got the victory. Jordan Ortiz led the way at the plate with a two for three performance.

Kim Garcia tossed a shutout in Winslow's 1-0 victory over Cheyenne of Las Vegas. Ortiz scored the game's only run on a single by Star Curley.

Kingman took advantage of nine Winslow errors to defeat the Lady Bulldogs 9-1. Garcia took the loss, victimized by a porous defense. Lyna Burrage and Panana had Winslow's only hits to account for the team's only run.

Payson handed the Lady Bulldogs another loss 8-1. Garcia took the loss. Erica Armenta and Dani Estudillo had Winslow's only hits.

The Lady Bulldogs came back to defeat Round Valley 7-2 as Burrage went the distance for the victory. Armenta was three for three to lead the hit parade. Garcia was two for two.

Lady Bulldogs 13 Blue Ridge 5

The Winslow Lady Bulldogs softball team defeated the Blue Ridge Lady Yellowjackets 13-5 in Winslow on March 13. The victory left the Lady Bulldogs with a record of 8-3 for the season.

Blue Ridge bunched five of its seven hits and Winslow committed three of its four errors in the first inning as the Lady Yellowjackets took a 4-0 lead. Winslow pitcher Kim Garcia settled down and the Lady Bulldogs moved ahead 5-4 in the fourth inning. Blue Ridge came back to tie the game at 5-5 in the fifth.

The Lady Bulldogs bunched eight of the their 14 hits in the fateful sixth inning and Blue Ridge committed all of its three errors as Winslow scored eight runs to blow the game wide open.

Jordan Ortiz was three for three with a double to lead the Lady Bulldogs. Erica Armenta, Lyna Burrage and Dani Estudillo were all two for three. Burrage had a double and a triple and Estudillo had a double. Kim Garcia was two for four with a double. Theresa Garcia was one for three. Star Curley and Joanna Panana were one for four.

The Winslow junior varsity remained undefeated at 5-0 with a 13-2 win over Blue Ridge. Juliet Sullenberger won for the fourth time this season, as she did not allow a walk or an earned run. Crystal Garcia tripled to give Winslow the lead for good in the second inning.
