The Winslow Lady Bulldogs softball team swept a pair of games at Fountain Hills on March 5, the bested Chino Valley on March 5 to put together a four game winning streak. Winslow defeated Fountain Hills 7-1 in the opener on Kim Garcia's two-hitter, then took the nightcap 6-5. Star Curley went the distance for the win. Kim Garcia was the winner again in Monday's 9-0 victory over Chino Valley in Winslow. The victories left the Lady Bulldogs with a 4-1 record for the season.
Erica Armenta led the hit parade, going two for three in each game. Kim Garcia was two for three in the first game at Fountain Hills and two for four against Chino Valley. Dani Estudillo was two for three against Chino Valley. Curley hit safely in the second game at Fountain Hills and against Chino Valley. Lyna Burrage, Theresa Garcia, Kathy Taylor, Joanna Panana and Jordan Ortiz each hit safely in one of the games.
The junior varsity ran its record to 4-0 for the season with a 15-7 win at Chino Valley. Juliet Sullenberger went the distance for the win and contributed to the offensive attack. Nicole Curnette led the way at the plate with Chelsea McKinney and Heidi Lucero contributing mightily among others.
Games at Snowflake slated for Wednesday were postponed or cancelled due to inclement weather. The varsity was scheduled to participate in the Kingman Invitational Tournament on Friday and Saturday and will host Blue Ridge on Tuesday. Window Rock will come calling on Friday for the first Enchantment Region game of the season. Winslow will be at Holbrook on Saturday.
