Bulldogs baseball team wins two

Bulldogs 9 Chino Valley 7

The Winslow Bulldogs came from behind to defeat Chino Valley 9-7 in a non-conference baseball game playing in Winslow March 6. The victory left Winslow with a record of 2-4 for the season.

Chino Valley had a seemingly comfortable 7-1 lead after four innings, but Winslow rallied for three runs in the fifth and four in the sixth to snatch away the victory.

Michael Beeson clubbed a two-out, two-run homer to climax the winning rally. He also had a double and five RBI's in three trips to the plate.

Sophomore Avery Bahe was brilliant in relief, hurling 4 1/3 scoreless innings and picking up credit for the win. He also contributed at the plate with a double and a single in three trips and two runs batted in.

Steven Martinez was two for four. Dub Ward and Shawn Mead each had key doubles in the game-winning sixth inning rally. David Mantei walked and scored on Beeson's homer. He also had one of the Winslow hits.

Mike Martinez and Daniel Vandervalk hit safely for the Bulldogs.

Bulldogs 13 Snowflake 9

The Winslow Bulldogs baseball team defeated the Snowflake Lobos 13-9 in a non-conference game played at Snowflake on Thursday. The win was the third straight for the Bulldogs after they dropped their first three contests at the Thunderbird Invitational Tournament. Winslow now had a 3-3 record for the season.

Winning pitcher Seven Martinez also enjoyed a stellar day at the plate with three hits and three RBI's in four trips to the plate. Freshman Fernando Lopez worked two quality innings in relief and was two for three at the plate. Allan Richards had a pair of doubles in four trips. Kevin Huckabee was two for three with a double and a triple. Mike Martinez was two for four. Mike Beeson had a double and two RBI's in two at bats. Dub Ward had a double in three trips. Shawn Mead was one for three and Seth Davis was one for four. The Bulldogs pounded out 15 hits with six of them being for extra bases.

The Bulldogs were to play a double header at Fountain Hills on Saturday and host Blue Ridge on Tuesday.

In games slated for the rest of the week, the 'Dogs will be at Window Rock on Friday for their first Enchantment Region game, then visit Holbrook on Saturday for a non-league game. On Tuesday, they will host Snowflake for a rematch.
