Mary Slowtalker

Funeral services for Mary Slowtalker, 88, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 7 at the Leupp Nazarene Church. Interment was in the family plot in South Leupp.

Mary Slowtalker passed away on April 2 in in Flagstaff. She was born on December 12, 1912 in Chinle. She was a homemaker, rug weaver, traditional moccasin maker, sheepherder and sheep aand cow rancher. She traveled with and assisted her husband, Jack Slowtalker (Ahni whi ahi Sani), a Navajo Tribal Judge "The Judge" and a medicine man, who was blind.

Her survivors include: daughters, Bessie Scott and Betty S. Chee, both of Leupp; sons, Tom Slowtalker of Leupp, John Slowtalker of Birdsprings, Kee Teddy Slowtalker, Jimmy Slowtalker, Kee Charles Slowtalker, Thomas Slowtalker, all of Leupp; sister Mary Cley of Leupp; 34 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; and step-son Joe Balmar Slowtalker of Parker.

She is preceded in death by her parents, HashK' Yazhi and Asza Tabaaha; her husband; and her brother, Charley Foster.

Greer's Scott Mortuary of Winslow was in charge of the arrangements.

Larry G. Gallegos

Larry G. Gallegos, 73, of Winslow, passed away on March 31 at Desert Samaritan Hospital in Mesa. He was born on May 24, 1927 in Concho. He lived in Clifton and Flagstaff before moving to Winslow in 1947. Larry served his county in the U.S. Army, serving in Korea. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and the V.F.W. Larry retired from the Arizona Department of Transportation in 1987. Larry was a very loving husband, father, and grandfather.

His survivors include: his beloved wife of 53 years, Dora; children: Henry Gallegos of Winslow, Linda Bruner of Mesa, Steve Gallegos of Winslow and Donna Sanchez of Mesa; brothers, Paul Gallegos and Max Gallegos; sisters, Sadie Perez, Dolores Verlin and Felia Gonzalez; grandchildren, Steve Bruner, Andrea Bruner, Eric Bruner, John Hernandez, Melanie Hernandez and Jennifer Hernandez.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Levi and Juanita Gallegos; sister Lucy Gutierrez; and grandchild, Brian Bruner.

Holy Rosary for Larry G. Gallegos was held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 3, at Madre de Dios Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 4 at Madre de Dios Catholic Church with Celebrant, Father Dan Hussey. Interment was in Desert View Cemetery.
