Bulldogs beat Window Rock and Tuba City

The Winslow Bulldogs defeated the Window Rock Scouts 77-69 in an Enchantment Region basketball game played at Winslow on Friday. Window Rock fell to 15-11 for the season and 4-3 in the region.

The Bulldogs established an early lead and had the Scouts playing catch-up all night. Winslow led 22-15 after the first period and 44-33 at the intermission. The margin was 58-48 after three periods. Window Rock cut the lead to six late in the fourth period, but was never able to get closer.

Bryan Curtis led the Winslow attack with 22 points. Seth Davis was also in double figures with 19 points for the Bulldogs.

Elcaro Lee had 23 points for Window Rock to lead all scorers. The Scouts had three players in double figures as Asa-Ryan Begaye tallied 21 points and DeWayne Morgan added 11.

Winslow 86 Tuba City 73

The Winslow Bulldogs upset the Tuba City Warriors 86-73 in an important Enchantment Region basketball game played at Winslow on Saturday.

The win left Winslow with a record of 11-9 for the season and 6-3 in the region. The loss knocked the Warriors out of sole possession of first place in the region as they fell to 14-7 for the season and 7-2 in the region.

The Bulldogs scored the first six points of the game on their way to a 19-9 first period lead. The margin was 37-29 at the intermission and a commanding 60-45 after three periods of play.

Seth Davis had 25 points for Winslow to lead all scorers. Bryan Curtis added 22 for the Bulldogs. Hesston Yazzie with 13 points and Ron Jones and Manuelito Shirley with 10 points each were also in double figures for Coach Paul Landis' squad.

Tuba City also had an impressive number of players in double figures led by Tristan Kewanyama and LaVar Martin with 17 each. James Justice had 12 points and Josh Allan tallied 11 for the Warriors.

The two teams will meet again tonight (Jan. 31) in Tuba City in a game that had been scheduled for Jan. 12 but was postponed due to a snowstorm. Winslow will end its regular season at Tuba City on Friday with the Greyhills Academy Knights as their opponent.
