Lady Bulldogs 55 Window Rock 42

The Winslow Lady Bulldogs defeated the Window Rock Lady Scouts 55-42 in an Enchantment Region basketball game played in Window Rock on Jan. 9. The win improved Winslow’s record to 14-2 for the season and a perfect 4-0 in the region. Window Rock fell to 8-7 for the season and 1-1 in the region.

The Lady Bulldogs roared out of the starting blocks and raced to a 20-7 first period lead that proved the difference in the game. The margin was 28-17 at the intermission and only 41-36 after three periods. Winslow held the Lady Scouts to only six points in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.

Francine McCurtain was outstanding as she accounted for 24 of Winslow’s points to lead all players in scoring. Nicole Begaii and Faith Carpenter were both in double figures with 10 points each for the Lady Bulldogs.

Treva Jim paced the Lady Scouts with 15 points. Roberta Haskie was also in double figures for Window Rock with 12 points.

Window Rock 61 Bulldogs 59

The Window Rock Scouts roared from behind to defeat the Winslow Bulldogs in an Enchantment Region basketball game played in Window Rock on Jan. 9. The win improved the Scouts’ record to 11-9 for the season and 2-0 in the region. Winslow fell to 6-9 for the season and 1-3 in the region.

Window Rock led 16-10 after the first period, but the Bulldogs held a 27-26 margin at the intermission. The Bulldogs led 45-38 after three periods but couldn’t withstand a 23-14 Scout advantage in the fourth quarter.

Bryan Curtis led the Bulldogs with 18 points. Manuelito Shirley was also in double figures with 18 points for Winslow.

Elcaro Lee paced the Scouts with a game high 21 points. Lawrence Hickson and Augustine Anderson each scored 13 for the victors.

Lady Bulldogs 52 Ganado 42

The Winslow Bulldogs defeated the Ganado Lady Hornets 52-42 in an Enchantment Region basketball game played at Ganado on Saturday. The win improved Winslow’s record to 15-2 for the season and a perfect 5-0 in the region. Ganado fell to 0-2 in the region.

Francine McCurtain was the game’s leading scorer as she poured in 29 points for the Lady Bulldogs, including 16 points in the first period. Faith Carpenter was also in the double figures for the victors with 10 points

Melissa Jones paced the Lady Hornets with 20 points. Kendralyn James was also in the double figures for Ganado with 11 points.

The Lady Bulldogs roared out of the starting blocks and raced to a 16-5 first period lead the Hornets could not overcome. The margin was 35-22 at the intermission and 39-30 after three periods.

The Lady Bulldogs hosted Greyhills on Tuesday and will play at Pinon on Saturday. Winslow also had an important showdown with Tuba City postponed due to snow on Friday, January 12.

Bulldogs 96 Hornets 88

The Winslow Bulldogs defeated the Ganado Hornets 96-88 in a high scoring Enchantment Region basketball game played at Ganado on Saturday. The win improved the Bulldogs’ record to 7-9 for the season and 2-3 in the region. Ganado fell to 6-10 for the season and 0-2 in the region.

Winslow led 26-21 at the end of the first period, but the Hornets led 46-45 at the intermission. The Bulldogs were back on top 63-61 after three periods in the high-octane contest that saw Winslow score 33 fourth period points to 26 for the Hornets.

Bryan Curtis led the Bulldogs and all scorers with 32 points. Winslow had four players in the double figures: Hesston Yazzie with 22 points, Seth Davis with 20 points and Manuelito Shirley with 16 points.

Ganado had five players in the double figures: Lavon Salabye with 20 points Ty Lynch with 17 points, Cody Mueller with 15 points and both Jay Taliman and Kasey Bluehouse with 13 points.

Winslow hosted Greyhills Tuesday and will play at Pinon on Saturday. The Bulldogs’ game with Tuba City on Friday, January 12, was postponed due to snow.
