Lady Bulldogs head to Phoenix
Lady Bulldogs 59 Snowflake 40
The Winslow Lady Bulldogs advanced to the second round of the Arizona State 3A Basketball Tournament with a surprisingly easy 59-40 win over the Snowflake Lady Lobos in Flagstaff on Tuesday. The win left Winslow with a record of 22-5 and ended Snowflake's season with a 20-7 mark.
The Lady Bulldogs took charge of the game at the opening tip and had built a double-digit lead of 16-6 by the end of the first period. The margin was 34-14 at the intermission and a commanding 50-21 after three periods. Snowflake made the score more respectable against Winslow reserves in the final period.
Enchantment Region Player of the Year Francine McCurtain paced the Winslow attack with 24 points. Faith Carpenter was a force for the Lady Bulldogs as she scored 15 points. Lexine Jensen was also in double figures for Winslow with 11 points.
Charae Cook led Snowflake with 12 points. Maigan Perkins and Nicole Simmon each scored 11 to finish in double figures for the Lady Lobos.
The Enchantment Region girls' teams swept their 3A East opponents as Tuba City defeated Holbrook 68-32, Ganado ousted Payson 51-33 and Monument Valley defeated Round Valley 77-57. Other tournament action saw Fountain Hills defeat Rio Rico 61-44, Chino Valley oust Coolidge 53-47, Seton Catholic best Safford 81-61 and Globe defeat River Valley 46-38.

Lady Bulldogs 67 Fountain Hills 45
The Winslow Lady Bulldogs advanced to the semi-final round of the Arizona State 3A Basketball Championship Tournament with a 67-45 victory over the Fountain Hills Lady Falcons in Flagstaff on Wednesday. The win improved Winslow's season record to 23-5 and ended the Lady Falcons' season with a 27-8 mark.
The Lady Bulldogs led after each quarter, but had to come back from a one-point third period deficit. Winslow was up 15-9 after the first period and 28-21 at the intermission. Fountain Hills stormed back to take a 32-31 lead, their only advantage of the game, with 4:06 left in the third period. Winslow scored the next 11 points to lead 42-32 entering the final quarter. The Lady Bulldogs continued to pull away during that frame and coasted to the victory.
Francine McCurtain led all scorers with 28 points for Winslow. Faith Carpenter was also in double figures for Winslow with 12 points.
Andrea Smith led Fountain Hills with 11 points. Neikomas Kill was also in double figures for the Lady Falcons with 10 points.
Winslow will meet the Ganado Lady Hornets for the third time this season in the semi-finals at America West Arena in Phoenix at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. The victor will meet the winner of the Tuba City-Monument Valley semi-final at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
