Winslow wins Enchantment Region wrestling crown Saturday at WHS
The Winslow Bulldogs claimed the Enchantment Region wrestling crown as they scored 206 points to 139.5 for second place Window Rock in the tournament held in Winslow on Saturday. Tuba City was second with 125 points followed by Ganado with 106.5, Monument Valley with 69.5, Pinon with 58 and Greyhills Academy with 55 points.
Tom Breeze of Winslow was named as the Enchantment Region Wrestling Coach of the Year. Nelson Almon of Ganado and Alex Brock of Tuba City were named as Outstanding Wrestlers for the tournament.
Divisional champions included Michael Martinez (130), Steven Martinez (145), Kendal Ybarra (152) and David Manthei (160) of Winslow; Tony Rintala (112), Sterling Cornfield (125) and Almon Nelson (140) of Ganado; Ky Borhauer (119), Alex Brock (171) and Derrick Nuveyestewa (215) of Tuba City; Daniel Etsitty (103) of Monument Valley, Garrick Begay (135) of Pinon, and Sean Yazzie (189) of Window Rock.
Finishing second were Jeff Murray (103), Dustin Taylor (140), Michael Yazzie (189), Brian Mitchell (215) and Brandon Mitchell (275) of Winslow; Jarrod Yazzie (119), Thomas Duane (135),Caryle Cooke (145) and Chase Law (152) of Window Rock; Alcott Blaine (112) and Jeremiah Etsitty (160) of Monument Valley; Jerrod Claw (125) of Tuba City, Roman McCabe (130) of Greyhills and Nolan White (171) of Ganado.
Finishing third were Dustin Cole (112), Jesse Hancock (125), Efrem Yazzie (135) and Steven Polacca (171) of Winslow; Detton Nelson (103), Maarcus Yazzie (130) and Alzado Gorman of Window Rock; Mike Manygoats (140), and Marc Jackson (189) of Tuba City; Notah Silversmith (145) and Thomas Leander (160) of Ganado, Travis Morgan (152) of Greyhills and Nathon Gray of Pinon.
Finishing fourth were Loren Yellowhair (135), Merle Smith (140), DeVere Francis (145) and Harlton Hanks (160) of Greyhills; Emery Mose (103), Carl Tachine (171) and Ericson Tullie (215) of Pinon; Hinton Williams (112) and Jesse Cardenas (130) of Tuba City, Quinn Parrish (152) and Dayton Lee (189) of Monument Valley, Scott Dobbins (119) of Winslow and Jerome James (125) of Window Rock.
All wrestlers who finished first through fourth qualified for the Arizona State 3A Wrestling Tournament.
