Bulldogs win at Greyhills, lose to Ganado and Tuba City

The Ganado Hornets defeated the Winslow Bulldogs 63-59 in an Enchantment Region basketball game played in Winslow on Tuesday. The win improved the Hornets' record to 11-14 for the season and 4-5 in the region. The Bulldogs fell to 11-10 for the season and 6-4 in the region.

The Hornets used a 22-11 third period scoring advantage to break out of a 22-22 half-time deadlock and take a 44-33 margin into the final period. Winslow cut the gap to two on a number of occasions, but never quite erased the deficit.

Cody Mueller led all scorers with 21 points for the Hornets. Jay Taliman with 15 points and Lavon Salabye with 13 were also in double figures for Ganado.

Seth Davis paced the Bulldogs with 14 points. Bryan Curtis and Hesston Yazzie each scored 11 to finish in double digits for Winslow.

Tuba City 73 Winslow 67

The Tuba City Warriors defeated the Winslow Bulldogs 73-67 in an Enchantment Region basketball game played on Wednesday at Tuba City. The victory improved Tuba City's record to 16-7 for the season and 9-2 in the Enchantment Region. Winslow fell to 11-11 for the season and 6-5 in the region.

Winslow led 15-14 after the first period, but a 23 point second period left the Warriors with a 37-24 advantage at the intermission. The Warriors continued to pull away in the third period and led 59-41 entering the final quarter. The Bulldogs rallied to close the gap in the fourth period, but it was too little, too late.

James Justice and LaVar Martin paced the Warriors with 17 points each. Josh Allan scored 16 points to also finish in double figures for Tuba City.

Bryan Curtis scored 17 points for Winslow to share game high scoring honors. Manuelito Shirley with 14 points and Seth Davis with 12 were also in double figures for the Bulldogs.

Winslow 67 Greyhills 43

The Winslow Bulldogs completed their regular season with a 67-43 victory over the Greyhills Academy Knights in an Enchantment Region basketball game played at Tuba City on Friday. The win gave the Bulldogs a 12-11 record for the regular season and a 7-5 record in the Enchantment Region. Greyhills fell to 11-16 for the season and 1-10 in the region.

Seth Davis paced the Winslow attack with 24 points. He was the only Bulldog in double figures.

Uriah Yazzie led the Knights with 19 points. LaVaniel Gishie was also in double figures for Greyhills with 12 points.

The Knights led after the first period 9-8, but Winslow had moved in front 27-22 by the intermission. The Bulldogs led 43-33 after three periods and used a big fourth quarter margin to pull away.
