Hopi Junior High Beats Pinon

Polacca, Ariz..– Shane Cepai led a balanced scoring attack as Hopi Junior High School walloped Pinon, 53-35, in boys junior high basketball action Nov. 28. The Little Bruins remained undefeated in two games.

Abrell Poleahla tossed in a half dozen points and Jerod Lomayestewa added five points to lead Hopi Junior High to victory. Derrick Ben topped Pinon Junior High with 15 and Rueben Gee added 13. Cepai fired in 11 points and Jeremy Adams tossed in four as the Little Bruins led 25-5 after the first quarter.

Four Hopis scored two points each in the second stanza as the Little Bruins zoomed to a 33-13 half-time bulge. Six Hopis scored two each in the third quarter as the Little Bruins led 45-22 after three periods.

Vince Youvella hit a trey in the final quarter. Hopi Junior High Coach Wallace Youvella Jr. said it was great winning their second consecutive game of the season. We’re looking to defend our state championship. That’s a big challenge for us to meet, but our goal is to get back to state,” he said.

Coach Youvella said Hopi Junior High was a bit lax in the second half. “The first half is a good example of what we want to do. We all played well and the players gave 110 percent. Everyone played a lot of minutes and we played good defense throughout,” he said.
