Cyber Trails starts a wireless service for high speed connections

Richard Moore, a consultant from Cyber Trails, said that there have been a lot of problems with getting enough phone lines along the I-40 corridor. The problems vary with the weather and the time of year. There are two services available, a dial-up service which is used by most residential customers, and dedicated "T-1" lines used by the school system and some businesses at higher expense. The schools expense is defrayed by grant funds, but businesses still need less expensive access.

"We saw a need that was not being met," Moore said.

To solve the problem, Cyber Trails is putting antennas on the NPC tower under lease arrangements. These will cluster the T-1 services, shipping them through the Cholla power plant to Phoenix and "headend routers." This way Winslow will get on the internet faster and more reliably. This service is primarily intended for businesses at this time, but residential service will be pilot tested here. The service will be more expensive, but if fast is your primary concern, you may want to get on the pilot testing list.

The antennas are being coordinated with the school district to avoid frequency overlap. "We have ours and he has his," Moore said, speaking of Ken Conatser of the district. The City will establish a plan to pool its resources and save money in the service.
