Bulldogs defeat Pinon and Camp Verde

The Winslow Bulldogs defeated the Pinon Eagles 18-3 in an Enchantment Region contest played at Winslow on April 3. The victory left the Bulldogs with a record of 9-7 for the season and 2-0 in the region. The game was shortened to five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Kevin Huckabee worked four strong innings and allowed only four hits in recording the victory for the Bulldogs.

Seth Davis and Michael Martinez each were two for two with home runs for the Bulldogs. David Manthei was three for four with a double, two triples and five runs batted in. Shawn Mead was two for three with a triple. Nathan Garner had a double in his only trip to the plate. Steve Martinez and Dub Ward each had a double in two trips. Michael Lopez was one for two and Daniel Vandervalk was one for three.

H. Begay had two doubles in as many tries to lead the Eagle attack. E. Thomas and N. Nelson each were one for two for Pinon.

Bulldogs 8 Camp Verde 4

The Winslow Bulldogs defeated the Camp Verde Cowboys 8-4 in a non-conference baseball game played in Winslow on Wednesday. The victory left Winslow with a 10-7 record for the season.

Alan Richards went the distance for the victory. Seth Davis was two for three for Winslow. Shawn Mead and Daniel Vandervalk were each two for four with Mead's hits being a double and a triple. Dub Ward was one for two. Mike Beeson, Steve Martinez and Richards were all one for three.

Winslow led 1-0 after the first inning, but the Cowboys bounced back to knot the score in the top of the second. The Bulldogs used a five run fourth inning to break a 1-1 tie. Camp Verde came back with three runs in the top of the fifth, but that was as close as they could get. The Bulldogs picked up a pair of insurance runs in the sixth.
