Bulldogs 8-7 for season, and 1-0 in region

The Winslow Bulldogs came from behind to defeat the Snowflake Lobos 5-4 in a non-conference game played in Winslow on March 20. The Bulldogs improved their record to 7-5 for the season and 1-0.

Mike Beeson allowed only seven hits and one earned run as he went the distance for the win.

Winslow built a 3-0 lead during the first two innings, but three unearned runs in the sixth allowed the Lobos to take a 4-3 margin into the final frame. Mike Martinez double was followed by two walks, a pair of stolen bases and Daniel Vandervalk's game-ending sacrifice fly.

Mike Martinez was two for three with a RBI. Vandervalk was one for one with a pair of RBI's. Dub Ward, Steven Martinez and David Manthei were all one for three.

The Bulldogs were slated to play at Round Valley on Friday and a double-header at Seton Catholic on Saturday. Winslow High School is on Spring Break this week and will resume action on April 3 when they host Pinon in an Enchantment Region game. That will be followed by a non-conference game with Camp Verde in Winslow on April 4.

Bulldogs Defeat Round Valley, Drop Pair to Seton

The Winslow Bulldogs baseball team defeated Round Valley 9-2 in Eagar on Friday, but lost both ends of a double-header to Seton Catholic 13-3 and 8-7 in eight innings at Chandler on Saturday. The results left Winslow with an 8-7 record for the season and a 1-0 mark in the Enchantment Region.

Alan Richards went the distance for the win against Round Valley. Mike Beeson was three for three with two doubles and three RBI's. Dub Ward was three for five with a double and three RBI's. Steve Martinez was two for five. Richards was one for four. Daniel Vandervalk and Shawn Mead were each one for five.

In the first game against Seton Catholic, Vandervalk was one for one, Ward was one for two and Mike Martinez was one for three for the Bulldogs.

In the second game against Seton Catholic, Winslow came back from a 7-3 deficit to tie the game in the seventh only to see the Sentinels win it in the extra frame. Mead was three for five. Richards and Kevin Huckabee each had a pair of doubles in three trips. Ward was one for three. Beeson was one for four with a two-run homer. Vandervalk was one for five.

The Bulldogs will host Pinon on Tuesday in an Enchantment Region game, then host Camp Verde on Wednesday in another non-conference game.
