Lady Bulldogs take Snowflake and Flagstaff

The Winslow Lady Bulldogs opened their 2000-2001 season with a convincing 57-41 victory over the Snowflake Lady Lobos in a non-conference basketball game played in Winslow on Nov. 21.

Lexine Jensen made her Lady Bulldog debut an impressive one as she connected on five three-point shots and scored a game high 19 points. Francine McCurtain and Faith Carpenter each tallied eight points for the victors.

Tracy Dunaway paced Snowflake with 12 points. Charae Cook was also in double figures with 10 points.

Snowflake led 11-9 after the first period, but the Lady Bulldogs quickly erased that deficit and had built a 31-20 advantage of their own by the intermission. Winslow increased its margin to 49-30 after three periods and coasted to the victory.

Lady Bulldogs 50 Flagstaff 47

The Winslow Lady Bulldogs edged the Flagstaff Lady Eagles 50-47 in a non-conference basketball game played in Flagstaff on Wednesday. The win left Winslow undefeated with a 2-0 record for the season.

Winslow jumped out to a 12-7 lead after the first period and had increased the margin to 29-16 by the intermission. Flagstaff roared back in the third quarter on the strength of 13 points from Rhiannon Baca to cut the lead to one at 35-34. The Lady Eagles bid fell short in the final period as Winslow held on for the 50-47 victory. Francine McCurtain scored 11 of her team's 15 points in the crucial final period, connecting on seven of eight charity tosses.

McCurtain led all scorers with 27 points in the contest. Baca paced Flagstaff with 17 points, all in the second half of play. Lenell Tahe was also in double figures for the Lady Eagles with 13 points.

The Lady Bulldogs hosted Holbrook on Tuesday before moving on to the Gallup Invitational Tournament on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
