Garnett named 1A-3A male player of the year<br>McCurtain selected for All Arizona Team

Winslow High School senior Stephen Garnett was named the 1A-3A Male Basketball Player of the Year by The Arizona Republic on Sunday. Garnett, who has signed a letter of intent to attend Northern Arizona University, was also named as the sixth man on the publication’s first team All Arizona Team.

Winslow High School junior Francine McCurtain was selected to the third team All Arizona Team. The only other players from the Enchantment Region selected to the All Arizona Teams were junior Amy North of Tuba City and junior Lorena Sullivan of Monument Valley.

Other members of the All Arizona Team for the boys were Mark Brown of Tucson Santa Rita, Jason Fontenet of St. Mary’s, Matt Lohmeier of Tucson Sahuaro and Jamaal Scott and Ryan Walcott of Shadow Mountain. Scott was named as the 4A-5A Player of the Year.

The members of the All Arizona Team for girls were Amy Bastman of Gilbert Highlands, Nicole Powell of Mountain Pointe, Sephanie Wilkerson of North High, Lacy Tolbert of Moon Valley and Syretta Coleman and Jessica Combs of Chandler. Powell was named as the 4A-5A Player of the Year. Courtney Lewis of Phoenix Country Day was named as the 3A Player of the Year for girls.

Tamrya Rogers of Tuba City from the Enchantment Region was named as the 1A-3A Girls Coach of the Year. Dave Yates of Gilbert Highlands was named as the 4A-5A Boys Coach of the Year. Bud Greer of Moon Valley was named as the 4A-5A Girls Coach of the Year. Bob Fredericks of Scottsdale Christian was named as the 1A-3A Boys Coach of the Year.
