Lady Bulldogs at the Gallup Invitational

Lady Bulldogs 80 Tohatchi 55

The Winslow Lady Bulldogs defeated the Tohatchi Lady Cougars 80-55 in the first round of the Gallup Invitational Tournament on Thursday. The win gave Winslow a 4-0 record for the season.

The Lady Bulldogs took command in the opening quarter and led 24-10 after the period. The margin was 50-19 at the intermission and 60-39 after three periods.

Francine McCurtain, Nicole Begaii and Faith Carpenter paced the Lady Bulldogs with 14 points each. Lexine Jensen scored only a point less with 13 for the victors.

Tanisha Bitsoi with 17 points and Tasha James with 10 were in double digits for the Lady Cougars.

Kirtland 63 Lady Bulldogs 57

The Winslow Lady Bulldogs suffered their first loss of the season as they dropped a 63-57 decision to a tough Kirtland, New Mexico squad in the second round of the Gallup Invitational Girls Basketball Tournament. The loss left Winslow with a 4-1 record for the season.

Winslow led 14-10 after the first quarter, but Kirtland had forged a 26-26 tie by the intermission and led 49-43 after three periods.

Francine McCurtain led all scorers with 23 points for Winslow. Lexine Jensen was also in double figures for the Lady Bulldogs with 14 points.

Shantel Begay paced Kirtland with 17 points. Jaimey Tanner with 13 points, Nadia Begay with 12 and Kym Simpson with 10 were all in double digits for the victors.
