Winslow Bulldogs began practice under Gracey on August 7

Matthew Gracey began his career as head football coach at Winslow High School by welcoming 58 players during the first week of practice which began on Aug. 7. Gracey, who has been working with the school's weight program during the summer, replaced Mike Olson as the chief Bulldog mentor. He was previously a defensive coordinator at a pair of Colorado high schools.

Winslow High School Athletic Director Don Petranovich said on Thursday that he expected the number of players out for football to practically double one school registration actually began.

The Bulldog varsity will host a controlled scrimmage with Flagstaff Coconino High School on Friday, August 25, at 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend, but there will be no charge and no scores kept during the event.

The regular season will begin with a pair of non-conference road games at Holbrook on Sept. 1 and at Chino Valley on Sept. 8. The first Enchantment Region game will be against Pinon on Sept. 15 at Winslow.

Other Enchantment Region contests will include Monument Valley at Kayenta on Sept. 22, Window Rock at Winslow on Sept. 29, Tuba City at Tuba City on Oct. 6, Ganado at Winslow on Oct. 13 and Greyhills at Tuba City on Oct. 20.

The regular season will conclude with a non-conference contest against Snowflake on Oct. 27 at Winslow.

The Bulldog freshman and junior varsity teams will actually see action a day before the varsity does. The first freshman contest will be at Show Low on Aug. 31 at 5 p.m. and the first junior varsity game will be at Winslow at 6 p.m. on the same date
