Lady Bulldogs dominate Alchesay Cagers, Winslow boys come from behind for victory

WINSLOW, Ariz. - The Winslow Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs won their games over the Alchesay Falcons and Lady Falcons in Winslow Jan. 8. The Lady Bulldogs won handily by nearly 30 points 63-34 while the Bulldogs had to struggle and come from behind for their 71-65 victory.

The Lady Bulldogs sped to a 20-12 first period advantage and more than doubled the Lady Falcons by the intermission 40-18. The margin was a still commanding 53-24 after three quarters. Winslow had four players in double figures led by Jaycey Sangster and Kaelyn Bitsoi with 12 points each. Adrianna Singer had 11 points and Shandiin Armao tallied 10 points. Shantel Harris led Alchesay with eight points. The Lady Bulldogs improved their record to 13-3 while Alchesay fell to 9-6 for the season.

In the boys' game, Alchesay started very strong and had a double digit 20-10 lead after the first quarter of play. The margin was a still substantial 36-27 Falcon lead at the half.

The Bulldogs cut the margin to 50-45 by the end of the third quarter and moved ahead in the final period. The Bulldogs improved their record to 10-3 with the victory. Alchesay fell to a still impressive 10-5 record.

Trelonnie Sanders led all scorers with 27 points for the Bulldogs and scored 11 of those points in the final period. Dalvin Benally was also in double figures for Winslow with 14 points, nine in the fourth quarter. Tylon Yazzie was in double figures for Winslow with 10 points and Akkeem Foster tallied nine points for the Bulldogs.

Alchesay had four players in double figures led by Rashaan Stover with 19 points. Blake Lupe scored 15 for the Falcons and Sace Velasquez and DeMarco Slick each scored 11 points for the Falcons.

The Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs played the Round Valley Elks and Lady Elks on Tuesday in Eagar.
