Tree thinning project starting on SR 264 west of Window Rock

WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. - The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is partnering with Navajo Nation Forestry to thin trees on State Route 264 between Ganado and Window Rock in preparation for the second phase of a roadway reconstruction project.

Navajo Nation Forestry and ADOT began cutting and removing the trees Feb. 2 between Ganado and Window Rock (mileposts 450-459). The cutting and removal should be done in approximately four weeks. Work will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday. For safety reasons, ADOT asks drivers not to stop in the tree-cutting areas to pick up the wood.

Motorists may experience delays of up to 15 minutes while larger trees are cut and removed next to the roadway. There will be narrowed traffic lanes and a reduced speed limit. ADOT advises drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.

More information about the project is available from Rod Wigman at (928) 308-8233, or by email at rwigman@azdot.gov.
