Winslow Lady Bulldogs top Show Low Lady Cougars and Snowflake Lady Lobos to win section

WINSLOW, Ariz. - The Winslow Lady Bulldogs softball team got a pair of important wins over the Show Low Lady Cougars and the Snowflake Lady Lobos to win the regular season sectional championship and assure a favorable seeding in the state championship tournament. On April 21 the Lady Bulldogs hammered the over matched Alchesay Lady Falcons 25-0 in Winslow. The wins improved Winslow's record to an excellent 26-1 going into state tournament play.

On April 23 the Lady Bulldogs pounded the Show Low Lady Cougars 16-7 at Show Low. Taylor Baca got the win allowing seven runs on nine hits. On April 30 the Lady Bulldogs defeated the Snowflake Lady Lobos 11-7 in Snowflake. Baca again got the win giving up seven runs on 14 hits.

Winslow trailed 1-0 after the first inning at Show Low and 5-2 after the third inning. An eight-run top of the fifth inning gave Winslow a 10-5 lead and a one-run sixth and five run top of the seventh put the game out of reach for the Lady Cougars.

Megan Lymer led the Lady Bulldogs at the plate with a four for five day. Baca, Richelyn Villanueva, Liz Lozano and Hailee Branson were all two for four. Jaleisa Hayes and Allyssa Smith were one for two and Halle Hayes was one for four.

The Lady Bulldogs had to come from behind to win the game at Snowflake, too. They trailed 3-0 after the first inning and 7-1 after the second. A four-run top of the third cut the margin to 7-5. Single runs in the fourth and fifth innings tied the score at 7-7 and a four-run top of the seventh won the game.

Halle Hayes was three for four to lead the Lady Bulldogs. Renee Bollin and Villanueva were two for three. Baca was two for four. Lymer and Kellie Branson were one for two.
