The Winslow Art Council put on a Kicking Kancer event Oct. 11 and supplied art decorations for people to decorate an old shoe. Linda Card suggested the decorating event, which took place in conjunction with the Winslow Cancer Support Group's Walk For Cancer event. Everyone brought an old shoe to decorate, which was dedicated to a cancer survivor or victim and included a monetary donation.

The shoes were on display during the Cancer Walk in Winslow, which included a 5K and 10k route for participants supporting the Winslow Cancer Support Group. Ultimately the shoes will be on display at the Oncology Department of Flagstaff Memorial Hospital. The shoes are a reminder of the courage patients and family exhibit while undergoing the trauma of cancer diagnosis and treatment.
