As part of Winslow's Smithsonian Journey Stories events, the Winslow Arts Council presented a Meet the Artist show and sale in downtown Winslow July 13. Left: Gwen Setella, an Arizona Culture Keeper, sits with her traditionally created Hopi pottery. Setella fires the pottery outdoors using sheep dung. Her clay is mined by hand and all pigments are from natural sources. Right: Hopi artist Joe Maktima Jr. In the foreground are small bows typically given to small Hopi children as wall decorations and symbols of encouragement to grow into a strong warrior. In the background is his flat art. Eight artists sold work and explained how the art was created.
