Jan. 23 Winslow duplex fire under investigation

On Jan. 23 at 7:47 p.m. the Winslow Fire Department responded to a report of smoke and possible fire in the attic of a duplex located at 917 W. Gilmore St.

When they arrived, firefighters saw heavy smoke coming from the attic and roof area of the building. Firefighters located the fire and quickly contained the fire to the attic area of the apartment.

There was significant damage to the apartment and smoke damage to the adjacent apartment. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Winslow Police Department, Arizona Department of Public Safety and Action Medical Services also provided assistance during the incident. The Grand Canyon Chapter of the American Red Cross responded as well to assist with the two families who were displaced by the fire.
