Northland Pioneer College offers basic beading class

Students can learn a variety of techniques for creating jewelry and other items in a "Beading Basics and Beyond" noncredit workshop at Northland Pioneer College's Winslow - Little Colorado Campus, on Thursday evenings, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., March 7 through April 18.

"Those new to beading will be introduced to many techniques. We will also address concerns in choosing tools and supplies and give students the opportunity to create their own jewelry designs," said instructor Janet Fish. Students will have time to complete one or more pieces of jewelry during the class.

Fish's mother taught her how to bead network. Through the years she learned various other techniques. She has taken classes at bead festivals in Phoenix, Texas and Santa Fe N.M.

"I bead for fun and usually don't sell my work," Fish said. "I especially enjoy doing off-loom weaving, bead embroidery, and making my own beads. I never make two pieces exactly the same."

Additional information about the bead class is available from Loyelin Aceves, community education program coordinator, at (800) 266-7845, ext. 6244.
