HOLBROOK, Ariz. - Holbrook High School (HHS) is putting on two parent meetings to discuss the future course of Arizona public education and provide resources to help students prepare for post-high school success.
The first meeting takes place April 17 at 6 p.m. at Holbrook High School in the Gardner Performing Arts Center. The second meeting is April 18 at 6 p.m. at Indian Wells Elementary School in the multipurpose room. Both events are Title I school-wide planning meeting and will focus on the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and Education and Career Action Plans (ECAP).
"We have to give our children and students a future before we can expect them to work hard and thrive in the present," HHS Principal Lance Phaturos said.
The meeting will focus on:
the framework and goals of the Common Core State Standards;
the Aspirations Model;
the three-step HHS ECAP process;
the HHS post-secondary and career readiness action plan and related programs;
Financial Aid (FAFSA) and Scholarship opportunities; and
the Arizona Career Information System (AZCIS) computer program. Parents have an opportunity to log into the program and review their student's ECAP.
"In essence, our goal on these evenings is to help facilitate a very important conversation that we, home and school, need to be having with our students, which is 'What will they be doing in June and beyond after their high school graduation,'" Phaturos said.
