Winslow Bulldogs 42, Holbrook Roadrunners 7

HOLBROOK, Ariz. - The Winslow Bulldogs defeated the Holbrook Roadrunners 42-7 in a game played at Holbrook on Friday. The win was the second in as many games for the Bulldogs and Holbrook's second loss in two games.

Kelly Wood led the Winslow attack, scoring three touchdowns and having a fourth called back because of a penalty. Holbrook played better than in their season opener against Snowflake though and only trailed 21-0 at the half. The Roadrunners will likely improve as the season progresses.

The Bulldogs drove 70 yards on their first possession to score on a 27 yard run by Kelly Wood. Jonathan Oso converted for a 7-0 lead with 7:30 left in the first period. Holbrook played tough and the first period ended with Winslow leading 7-0.

Kelly Wood concluded another Bulldog drive with a 21 yard run for his second touchdown of the game. James Martinez passed to Henry Montiel for the two point conversion and a 15-0 Winslow lead with 9:11 left until the half.

A blocked punt by Chase Hardy set up Winslow's next score as the Bulldogs took over on the Holbrook four yard line. James Martinez scored from the one and the conversion pass failed. Winslow led 21-0 at the half.

After Winslow got the ball deep in Holbrook territory Sam Setalla scored on a four yard run and the Bulldogs led 27-0 with 5:34 to go in the third quarter. The conversion run failed.

Kelly Wood got his third touchdown of the game on a 37 yard run and Sam Setalla ran for the two point conversion and a 35-0 Winslow lead at the end of the third quarter.

James Martinez got Winslow's last score on a one yard run and Henry Montiel replaced the injured Jonathon Oso as the kicker and booted his first conversion for a 42-0 lead.

Holbrook got on the scorebook with less than two minutes left to play on a brilliant 67 yard pass from Dante Hollins to Aaron Thomas. Mangus Mortgenson booted the conversion and the 42-0 final score was on the board.

Winslow will host the Flagstaff Eagles in their first home game on Friday.
