Celebrate Halloween at Hubble building Oct. 27
Costume, story and pumpkin carving contests free to all

WINSLOW, Ariz. - The Winslow Arts Council is having a scary Halloween party. It will consist of contests for children and adults and light refreshments. The event begins at 4 p.m. Oct. 27 at the historic Hubble Trading Post Chamber of Commerce building.

There will be a Halloween Costume Contest with four age divisions - preschool-kindergarten, grades 1-8, grades 9-adult and team costumes. All costumes should be homemade - not store acquired. There will be ribbons for first, second and third in each division and certificates of participation for all others.

Next will be a Halloween Story Contest. Stories must be original. Age divisions are kindergarten, first and second grades. Stories should be less than 100 words and all others, less than 700 words. Stories need to be submitted to Peggy Wilson at Winslow City Hall no later than Oct. 24. First, second and third place ribbons will be awarded on these grade categories - kindergarten through second, third through sixth, seventh through ninth, 10th through 12th and 13th through adult.

Last but not least there will be a contest involving pumpkins. Three categories include carved Jack-O-Lanterns, carved pumpkins not Jack-O-Lanterns and decorated pumpkins. Age divisions in these categories are under 12 years of age, ages 12-17, adults and group project.

There is no entry fee or other costs associated with the event.
