HOLBROOK, Ariz. - The Navajo County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the donation of a 15-passenger van to the Chilchinbeto Chapter Elderly Program at their recent meeting on July 24.

The passenger van was originally purchased by the county in June of 2010 with funds from the District I Local Transportation Assistance Fund II (LTAF II). Based on a demonstrated need in the community, the van was assigned to the Chilchinbeto Chapter Elderly Programs in northern Navajo County.

"I am very grateful to the Board of Supervisors for approving this item on our agenda," said District I Supervisor Jonathan M. Nez. "I am also very grateful for the generosity and charity demonstrated by the leading members of the Chilchinbeto Chapter to see to the needs of the elderly. We need to have great respect for the elders in our communities, and I believe that assisting them in this way will be in everyone's interest."

Vice President Mary Keahey, of the Chilchinbeto Chapter, expressed gratitude for the donation.

"I want to say thank you for your help. We are a very small and remote community, without much to serve our residents. This vehicle will help our elderly in a variety of ways, and we plan to put it to good use. I hope you understand what this means for us. Thank you," said Keahey.

Supervisor Jesse Thompson of District II was very pleased by the decision of the board as well. In his comments to the board he thanked the members for approving the measure and then added, "I am confident that the members of the Chilchinbeto Chapter with access to this van will make good use of it and serve the interests of the elderly in that area."
