Winslow teams top Blue Ridge

WINSLOW, Ariz. - The Winslow Lady Bulldogs continued their magnificent season with an easy victory over the Blue Ridge Lady Yellowjackets in Winslow on Thursday. The Winslow Bulldogs edged the Yellowjackets in the nightcap to break a losing streak and get their first victory of 2012.

The Lady Bulldogs defeated the Blue Ridge Lady Yellowjackets 68-34 in Thursday's varsity opener. The victory improved Winslow's record to an impressive 17-2 for the season.

Winslow led 22-9 after the first quarter and continued to dominate the Lady Yellowjackets in building a 37-20 halftime lead. The margin was 53-31 after three quarters and continued to grow in the final period.

Mattea Begaii was the only player in double figures for the Lady Bulldogs and led all scorers with 13 points.  Taylor Maxwell led Blue Ridge with 10 points.  Winslow had 11 players score to only six for the Lady Yellowjackets.

  The Lady Bulldogs were scheduled to play a home game against Flagstaff on Friday.  They will be in Kayenta to meet the Monument Valley Lady Mustangs on Saturday and host the Holbrook Lady Roadrunners on Tuesday.

In the nightcap the Winslow Bulldogs boys' team won a tight game over the Blue Ridge Yellowjackets 54-49 in Winslow on Thursday. The win was Winslow's first since the start of the 2012 portion of the season and broke a losing streak. It improved Winslow's record to 10-11 for the season.

Blue Ridge led 12-10 after the first quarter of play and 23-20 at the half thanks to a long three point bank shot. The Bulldogs came back to tie the score at 34-34 after three periods of play. The fourth quarter was tight and usually tied until the closing seconds. The Bulldogs hit clutch free throws in the final seconds to seal the victory.  .

Tremayne Nez led all scorers with 15 points for the Bulldogs. Josh Danny was also in double figures for Winslow with 13 points. Chris William led Blue Ridge with 12 points. Adam Webb was also in double figures for the Yellowjackets with 10 points.

The Bulldogs were to host the Flagstaff Eagles on Friday and journey to Kayenta to meet the Monument Valley Mustangs on Saturday. They were to host the Holbrook Roadrunners on Tuesday.
