Leon Poleheptewa sworn in as Hopi Jr/Sr High School board member Jan. 10

POLACCA, Ariz. - Leon Poleheptewa, a new school board member at Hopi Jr/Sr High School, was sworn in during the Jan. 10 board meeting. Poleheptewa beat incumbent Tommy Canyon in the November election to represent the Kykotsmovi area on the school board.

Valerie Koiyaquaptewa will serve as board president, Troy Lomavaya became the vice president and Edgar Shupla is the new board clerk.

Steve Bahnimptewa, outgoing president, will remain on the school board and serve as Hopi Jr/Sr High School's representative to the Hopi Board of Education. Polehepetwa will be the alternate to HBE if Bahnimptewa cannot make an HBE meeting.

In other Hopi Jr/Sr High School education news:

• Superintendent Paul Reynolds reported that the annual audit showed no deviations or findings meaning that the school's finances are in order. He credits Hopi Jr/Sr High Business Manager Patrick Secakuku with running a finely tuned business department.

• Loris Leslie resigned as a permanent substitute teacher in order to take a job at the school as a computer technician.
