Durango Demons win Tate's Tourney championship, Bulldogs win consolation round

WINSLOW, Ariz. - The Durango, Colo. Demons won the Tate's Shootout Tournament Championship with a 38-33 victory over the Holbrook Roadrunners on Saturday in Winslow.

The Winslow Bulldogs took the Consolation Championship with a 77-44 win over the St. Johns Redskins. The Valley Sanders Pirates defeated the Snowflake Lobos 71-66 for third place in the Championship Bracket and the Hopi Bruins topped the Tuba City Warriors 56-52 for third place in the Consolation Bracket in other final round games on Saturday.

Durango 38-Holbrook 33\

The Durango Demons won their fourth game and the Championship of the Tate's Shootout Tournament with a 38-33 win over the Holbrook Roadrunners. Holbrook led the low scoring game 8-3 after the first quarter but the Demons tied the game at 16-16 by the half and led 26-25 after three quarters. Andon Hatch of Holbrook led all scorers with 15 points. Ty Elliot paced the Demons with 10 points. Nick Hamlin scored nine for Durango.

Winslow 77-St. Johns 44

The Winslow Bulldogs defeated the St. Johns Redskins 77-44 to win the Consolation Bracket Championship. The Bulldogs had a huge first quarter and led 35-15 going into the second period, 52- 26 at the half and 70-36 after three quarters. Dayton Waite of St. Johns led all scorers with 23 points but was the only Redskin in double figures. Four players scored in double digits for Winslow led by Keenan Keams with 12 points. Milland Thomas scored 11 points for the Bulldogs and Michael Goldtooth and Jesi Bitsoi each posted 10 points.

Valley Sanders 71-Snowflake 66

The Valley Sanders Pirates defeated the Snowflake Lobos 71-66 in overtime, taking third place in the Championship Bracket. Snowflake led 16-10 after the first quarter and 32-31 at the half. The Lobos were still up 46-43 after three quarters but the Pirates tied the game 53-53 at the end of regulation play. The Pirates won the contest in the overtime period. Corey Quigley led all scorers' with 28 points for the Pirates. Kevin Watchman scored 18 points and Jere Betoney scored 15 points for the Pirates. Reggie Peterson led the Lobos with 17 points. Braccin Tanner scored in double figures for Snowflake with 11 points.

Hopi 56-Tuba City 52

The Hopi Bruins took third place in the Consolation Bracket with a 56-52 win over the Tuba City Warriors. The game was tied 12-12 after the first quarter but the Bruins had a 29-18 lead at the half. Tuba City came back strong in the third quarter and led 40-39 heading into the final period. Hopi outscored the Warriors 16-12 in the fourth quarter to claim the victory. Clyne Youvella led all scorers with 17 points for Hopi. Stephan Tootsie scored 13 points and Allen Joshvema scored 11 points for the Bruins. Alonzo Thompson led Tuba City with 16 points. Christian Begay scored 12 points and Tristan Begay scored 11 points for the Warriors.

The Holbrook Roadrunners and Durango reached the finals of the Championship Bracket with wins on Saturday morning in the Tate's Shootout Tournament in Winslow. In Consolation Bracket games Winslow and St. Johns were winners and advanced to the Consolation Bracket Championship Game.

Durango 49-Snowflake 38

Durango defeated Snowflake 49-38 to qualify for the Championship Game of the Championship Bracket. Durango built a 10-3 advantage in the first quarter and was up 27-11 at the half and 42-27 after three quarters. Ty Elliot and Nick Hamlin led all scorers with 12 points for Durango and Isiah Mayberry scored in double figures with 11 points. Doug Brimhall led Snowflake with 10 points.

Holbrook 64-Valley Sanders 49

The Holbrook Roadrunners defeated the Valley Sanders Pirates 64-49 to reach the Championship Game for the Championship Bracket. Holbrook led 19-10 after the first quarter and racked up a commanding 40-22 by the half. Holbrook led 50- 27 after three quarters. Holbrook had four players in double figures led by Kyle Chee with 18 points. Dontae Hollins and Sheldon Silversmith each scored12 points and Nathan Turley posted 11 points. Corey Quigley led Valley Sanders with 16 points.

Winslow 58-Hopi 41St. Johns 58-Tuba City 55

The St. Johns Redskins edged out the Tuba City Warriors 58-55 to reach the Consolation Bracket Championship Game. Tuba City led 18-14 after the first quarter and 34-27 at the half. The Warriors were still up 42-37 after three quarters. St. Johns came on strong and outscored the Redskins 21-13 in the final period for the win. Kendrick Begay of Tuba City led all scorers with 23 points. Alonzo Thompson also scored in double figures for the Warriors with 14 points. Dillon Graf led St. Johns with 16 points and Dayton Waite scored 15 points.
