Try not to smoke during the Great American Smokeout®

Wednesday was the Great American Smokeout®. Every year the American Cancer Society hosts the Smokeout to encourage tobacco users to quit for just one day. Their hope is that smokers who successfully quit for one day, will at least think about quitting for good.

Smokers are tired of being lectured on the harmful effects of smoking. We all know smoking is not good for you. There is no new information about smoking tobacco. Tobacco use is still the number one cause of preventable death in the U.S. Quitting is not easy. It takes between eight and 10 attempts at quitting before people can remain tobacco-free. There is help available for those serious about quitting.

The Arizona Smokers' Helpline offers free quit coaching, access to free nicotine replacement therapies, and online quit assistance. The Arizona Smokers' Helpline offers free quit coaching at 1-800-55-66-222 (English and Spanish) and online quit coaching services via WebQuit at www.ASHLine.org.

The ASHLine - funded by the state tax on tobacco products - has been helping people quit tobacco since 1995. If you are interested in quitting smoking and recouping money you've spent paying taxes on tobacco products, call ASHLine today. After all, you helped fund this program. Take advantage of what you've paid for while perhaps saving your own life. Your family and friends will thank you when you succeed and are tobacco-free.
