Bulldogs win two, lose three at Estrella Camp

WINSLOW, Ariz. - The Winslow High School basketball players won two games and lost three at the Estrella Foothills Camp on Friday and Saturday, June 17 and 18. Twelve players participated in the camp and the results brought Winslow's record to 8-10 for the summer with a tournament that began on June 22 at San Diego.

Players participating in the camp included Tremayne Nez, Josh Danny, Tyler Williams, Brennan James, Donovan Warren, Michael Goldtooth, Lucas Shirley, Millard Thomas, Stevin Nelson, Frank Kelly, Vinny Sells and Jade Chischillie. Rickie Greer and Paul Landis are the principal coaches.

Winslow opened play on Friday with a 64-58 win over the Shadow Mountain Matadors. Tyler Williams led Winslow with 11 points. Michael Goldtooth and Lucas Shirley each scored nine points. Cactus defeated Winslow 50-42 in the team's next game that day. Tremayne Nez paced Winslow with 10 points. The Bulldogs won their last game on Friday 37-36 in a close call over Scottsdale Christian. Tyler Williams led the Bulldogs with 17 points. Tremayne Nez and Brennan James each scored eight points.

On Saturday Willow Canyon pounded Winslow 67-34 in the only game the team played which was not competitive. Brennan James was the only Bulldog in double figures with 10 points. Canyon del Oro defeated Winslow 65-58 in the team's final game of the camp. Tyler Williams was the only Bulldog in double figures with 14 points.

Winslow's first game in San Diego was to be against Fossil Ridge with the team to play the winner or loser of a game between Cathedral and Coronado depending on whether they won or lost. The schedule was large and complicated with eight teams in the same section as Winslow but two other varsity segments and junior varsity and freshman team competition as well. Winslow is apparently not involved in the underclass competition.
