NNWO welcomes new employee A. Joseph Sarcinella

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Navajo Nation Washington Office welcomes new staff member A. Joseph "Joe" Sarcinella V., who will serve as government and legislative affairs associate. Sarcinella will handle taxation, gaming, and transportation portfolios.

"We are pleased to announce the newest addition to our staff. Joe's impressive background and resume speaks for itself and his experience in Indian Country will serve the Navajo people well," said NNWO Executive Director Clara Pratte.

Originally from California, splitting time between northern Placer County and southern Ventura County, he is a former Division I football player and received a full scholarship to Boise State University and later to Sacramento State University where he transferred to finish his undergraduate studies. Sarcinella then moved to Arizona where he received an academic fellowship to the Arizona State University Graduate College earning his Master of Science in Justice and Social Inquiry with an emphasis on Public Policy in Indian Country.

Sarcinella went on to receive a university fellowship to the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law, earning his Juris Doctor and a legal certification in Tribal law from the Arizona State University Indian Legal Program. Just this February Sarcinella passed the Arizona State Bar Exam.

Sarcinella has been recognized by countless national and local organizations both Native and non-Native for his extensive civic service work, which continues to be his passion outside of work. Sarcinella has a very broad work history ranging from Tribal youth programming to college administration.

Most recently Sarcinella has been working as a professor of Indian law, policy, governments and societies and additionally serving as the judicial clerk/staff attorney to the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation in Connecticut. Sarcinella is Hunkpapa Lakota and Assiniboine.
