Winslow boys, girls teams defeat Tuba City

WINSLOW, Ariz. - The Winslow Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs were both victorious against the Tuba City Warriors and Lady Warriors in baseball and softball games played in Winslow on Tuesday.

The Winslow Bulldogs defeated the Tuba City Warriors 16-0 in a 3A North Region baseball game played in Winslow on Tuesday. The win improved Winslow's record to 12-6 for the season. This was the second game of a week in which the team has a game every day except Monday due to postponements earlier in the season. Winslow was to play at Kayenta on Wednesday against Monument Valley, at home against Ganado on Thursday, at Polacca against Hopi on Friday and at Snowflake on Saturday.

Chris Garrett pitched a one hit shutout for the win in a game limited to five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule. He walked three and struck out seven.

The Bulldogs scored three runs in the first inning on singles by Colton Corum and Jevon Estelle, a walk and a triple by Rhett Hardy. Eleven runs in the bottom of the second put the game out of reach. Winslow had 10 hits in the rally. The final runs scored in the fourth inning.

Colton Corum was a perfect three for three at the plate. Vicenzio Sells was a perfect two for two. Avery Dashee was one for one with a double. Vittorio Sells was three for four with a double. Jevon Estelle was two for three. Rhett Hardy and Sam Setalla were both one for two with Hardy having a double. Matt Smith was one for three. Johnny Woods and Chris Garrett were one for four.

The Winslow Lady Bulldogs defeated the Tuba City Lady Warriors 7-1 in a 3A North Region softball game played at Winslow on Tuesday. The win improved Winslow's record to an excellent 16-1. This was the second game of a week in which the team has a game every day due to postponements earlier in the season.

Kelley Pugh got the win giving up an unearned run on just four hits. She struck out 10 Lady Warriors and did not walk any.

Winslow scored six of their seven runs in the bottom of the first inning on singles by Gabby Stacey, Mireya Ulibarri, Haley Hayes, Becca Perez, Kelley Pugh, Renee Bollin, Melissa Jacobs and second singles of the inning by Stacey and Ulibarri. Tuba City scored its run in the top of the fourth inning on two Winslow errors. The final score came in the bottom of the fifth inning on doubles by Renee Bollin and Mariah Flickenger.

Becca Perez was a perfect two for two at the plate for Winslow and Mariah Flickenger was one for one with a double.  Gabby Stacey, Mireya Ulibarri and Renee Bollin were all two for three with Bollin having a double. Melissa Jacobs, Haley Hayes, Mallory Smith and Jaleisa Hayes were all one for two. Kelley Pugh was one for three.
