Lady Bulldogs top Joseph City, Holbrook

The Winslow Lady Bulldogs posted wins over Joseph City and Holbrook last week. The easy victories improved the season record for the Lady Bulldogs to 14-1. Neither game was close as Winslow defeated Joseph City 11-1 on Tuesday and Holbrook 23-3 on Wednesday.

Mallory Smith got the win against Joseph City, limiting the Lady Wildcats to one run on three hits and a walk with nine strikeouts.

In the Tuesday game the Lady Wildcats scored in the top of the first inning and led 1-0 when they got two of their three hits, a single and a triple. Winslow tied the game in the bottom of the second inning on a single by Becca Perez, an error, a stolen base and a ground out. The Lady Bulldogs went ahead 2-1 in the third inning on a hit batsman, an error and a single by Becca Perez. The margin grew to 4-1 in the fourth inning on singles by Renee Bollin, Melissa Jacobs, Gabby Stacey and Mireya Ulibarri. Three runs in the fifth inning made it 7-1. In that rally there were singles by Gabby Stacey, Mireya Ulibarri, Melissa Jacobs and Arianna Huerta and a double by Becca Perez. The final runs scored in the bottom of the sixth and brought the 10 run mercy rule into effect. Those runs scored on singles by Gabby Stacey, Arianna Huerta, Kelley Pugh, Mallory Smith and a double by Renee Bollin.

Becca Perez was three for three with a double. Kelley Pugh was one for one. Gabby Stacey was four for five. Melisa Jacobs was two for three. Mariah Ulibarri and Arianna Huerta were two for four. Mallory Smith was one for two.

In the win over Holbrook on Wednesday, Haley Hayes got the win in relief of Kelley Pugh. Pugh worked two innings and gave up three runs on three hits and a walk. Hayes worked three innings and gave up one hit.

Winslow took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first on singles by Gabby Stacey and Mariah Ulibarri and a home run by Haley Hayes. Holbrook tied the score at 3-3 in the top of the second on two singles and a walk. Winslow went back in front for good in the bottom of the frame 4-3 on singles by Jaleisa Hayes, Gabby Stacey and Mariah Ulibarri. A 17 run third inning put the game out of reach and the mercy rule into effect.

Gabby Stacey was a perfect three for three at the plate. Haley Hayes was three for four with a triple and a home run. Mallory Smith and Arianna Huerta were two for three. Mariah Ulibarri, Megan Lymer and Jaleisa Hayes were two for four with Lymer having a double. Becca Perez, Renee Bollin and Taylor Baca were one for two.

Games against Show Low and a double header against Monument Valley at Kayenta were postponed due to inclement weather on Friday and Saturday. The Lady Bulldogs were to host Tuba City on Tuesday and will host Ganado on Thursday and play Hopi at Polacca on Friday and Snowflake there on Saturday.
