Coconino BOS elects new chair, vice chair

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - At their Regular meeting on Sept. 21, the Coconino County Board of Supervisors elected a new Chair, District 4 Supervisor Mandy Metzger, and a new Vice Chair, District 1 Supervisor Carl Taylor. Metzger replaces outgoing Chair Liz Archuleta, who represents District 2.

"I am honored to serve our County as Chair of the Board and thank my fellow Supervisors for their vote of confidence in me," said Metzger. "We have a spectacularly beautiful county full of smart and resilient people. We have dedicated elected officials, and employees who are devoted to our residents. With all this, I am confident we will find creative, innovative ways to get through these tough economic times. I look forward to the challenge."

Supervisors Metzger and Taylor will serve their terms from Oct. 1 through June 30. The chair is normally elected at the end of the year for the upcoming calendar year. However, since there are five board members elected to four-year terms, the term of the chair was shortened to a nine month period. This allows each board member the opportunity to serve as chair during their term in office.

The five-member board also agreed that the vice chair will automatically assume the role of chair at the end of each term.
