WINSLOW, Ariz. - The Winslow Rotary addressed the Winslow city council Nov. 9 with their preliminary proposal to move the 9-11 Memorial from its current location at the corner of Transcon Lane and Third Street to the East End Park. The distance is approximately 1/4- mile west of the current location.

The proposal was presented by Rotary member Dr. Greg Hackler with fellow Rotary members Jim Pate and Dave Hartman in attendance.

The reason for the proposed move is because the Rotary wishes to enhance and expand the memorial - which consists of two large steel beams from the Twin Towers - to enable more people to view them and provide a more dramatic setting.

The council approved the proposal and will assist with the project. The request was approved because the monument's existing location would eventually pose problems for scheduled road improvements in the area.

The new location will have parking for busses and cars, handicapped access, restrooms, room for large attendance at memorial services and dramatic architecture including informational plaques.

Winslow's 10-year remembrance of the 9-11 tragedy will be held at the new location in September 2011.
