Spring events at the Arboretum

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - The Arboretum at Flagstaff will host a series of four half-day gardening classes and two half-day art classes during the month of May. Gardening classes provide time in the gardens with a hands-on project, as well as classroom lessons. Participants will gain new skills and will leave with reference materials. Art classes use the natural environment for inspiration with pastel and pen and ink drawing.

On Saturday, May 15, from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m., join Gwen Waring, for "Landscapes, Peak, and Flowers...in Pastels ...Jump In!" Using pastels, learn basic techniques for drawing nature.

On Sunday, May 16, from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m., Gwen Waring leads "Pen & Ink in the Garden". The class focuses on floral drawing. Cost for art classes are $45 for members, $55 for non-members each; materials included.

On Saturday, May 22, the Arboretum will offer two gardening classes: "How to Build a Rock Garden" from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and "Water Feature Workshop" from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

In the morning class, participants will help build a rock garden while learning some basic hardscaping techniques, soil amendment, planting, irrigation, and overall design. A complete instruction manual and plant list will be provided.

There will also be an afternoon workshop. The fee for gardening classes is $25 each for members and $30 each for non-members.
