Readers: Take advantage of our website features

It's been a little over a month now since we debuted our revamped, redesigned website for the benefit of our readers from afar. Those of you who have seen our website since early May have probably noticed some significant changes from our previous website. We believe that this new layout will make it even easier for you, our readers, to find out about what's going on in Navajo and Hopiland. Much of the well-deserved credit for the redesign goes to the Western News&Info, Inc. (WNI) Web operations team who once again did a tremendous job in upgrading all of WNI's websites.

With the redesign, all of WNI's Web sites have visually become much more "streamlined" and more "news-centric." The lead story is featured more prominently on our website along with a much larger photo. Local news, sports, milestones, videos and photos galleries are more prominently highlighted on the main page. At the very top of the page, you can access other sections on our website simply by placing your mouse over the menu item.

Additional sections such as the opinion page, obituaries, blogs, subscription information, local listings and the ever-important contact page can be found here. As always, the contact page can be used to determine who to contact here if you need to submit an article, a classified advertisement or display advertisement.

Our website has a lot of important features that we would very much like for our readers to take advantage of, especially since we are still somewhat limited as to what we can feature in our print edition because of print production costs.

In particular, we strongly encourage our readers to take advantage of the Milestones feature, which can be easily accessed by simply hovering your mouse over the "Milestones" menu and selecting which event you wish to submit to. Milestones draw attention to significant life events in a person's life, such as college graduations, military accomplishments, births, engagements, marriages and anniversaries. Take a look at our current Milestones and be sure to let your friends and family members know about this feature.

Other features that some of you have already taken advantage of is our online article comments and events calendar. We've made it even easier for you to post comments about an online article and we highly encourage our readers to make comments on articles. The events calendar, featured at the bottom of our website, is where upcoming event are posted online. Events such as school and community events and chapter meetings can be posted here in addition to being submitted as potential "Quick Read" announcements in our print edition. It can also come in handy if you happen to miss our submission deadline and need to quickly post an event announcement. Simply hover your mouse over the "Submit" menu and select "Event Submission" to place your upcoming event online.

You can also submit a letter to the editor or guest viewpoint online. General comments about our paper can also be made on the website.

As you can see, we've made an effort to make the NHO more accessible to you, our readers. We strongly encourage our readers to use our website as much as possible because it is a critical component to how we deliver news and happenings to your communities and beyond. Take a few moments after you read this week's issue and go to www.nhonews.com and post a comment, post an event, submit a photo, or write a letter to the editor.

Your comments matter, and we look forward to hearing from you.
