Bulldog boys, girls edge past Holbrook

WINSLOW, Ariz. - The Winslow Bulldogs defeated the Holbrook Roadrunners 67-55 in a 3A North Region basketball game played on Tuesday. Winslow improved its record to 21-6 for the season and 6-2 in the 3A North Region. The win got the Bulldogs very much into the 3A North Region race as Holbrook took its second regional loss. The league title and playoff positions will not likely be decided until after the Bulldogs have hosted the Window Rock Scouts and the Monument Valley Mustangs who are also serious contenders along with Winslow and Holbrook.

The first half was extremely close as the Roadrunners led 21-14 after the first quarter only to see the Bulldogs on top at the intermission 35-33. The decisive quarter was the third period as Winslow outscored the Roadrunners 15-5 to take a 51-38 advantage into the final quarter.

Tyler Stingley of Holbrook led all scorers with 13 points. Adrian Sandoval with 11 points and Jalen Jackson with 10 were also in double figures for the Roadrunners.

Lakota Shirley and Jevon Estelle led Winslow's attack with 11 points each. Kraig Shirley was also in double figures for the Bulldogs with 10 points.

Girls game

The Winslow Lady Bulldogs defeated the Holbrook Lady Roadrunners 68-46 in a 3A North Region basketball game played on Tuesday.  The win improved Winslow's regional record to 5-2 and their record for the season to 17-4. Holbrook's record in the 3A North Region fell to 1-5. The win was an important one for Winslow, who is in a close battle with Window Rock and Monument Valley for the 3A North Region lead. Winslow has games left with both of these teams and they play each other as the season comes to a conclusion.

The Lady Bulldogs led 11-7 after the first quarter and had the game well under control with a 30-13 lead by the intermission.  The margin was an even greater 55-31 after three quarters.

Felencia Keams led all scorers with 18 points for Winslow. Jennifer Yazzie was also in double figures for the Lady Bulldogs with 13 points. April Lester led the Lady Roadrunners with 13 points.
