Winslow Lady Bulldogs in a double-shutout against Tuba City and Ganado

TUBA CITY and GANADO, Ariz. - The Winslow Lady Bulldogs defeated the Tuba City Lady Warriors 10-0 in a 3A North Region softball game played in Tuba City on Tuesday, April 13 and beat the Ganado Lady Hornets 13-0 in Ganado on Thursday. The wins improved Winslow's record to 19-2 for the season.

Jennifer Yazzie got the win against Tuba City allowing no runs on four hits and a walk. She fanned nine in the seven inning shutout. Kelly Pugh pitched a no hit, no run game against Ganado with 11 strikeouts and one walk in the five inning contest called by the 10 run mercy rule.

The Tuba City game was scoreless until the top of the fourth inning when the Lady Bulldogs took a

2-0 lead on back to back home runs by Bernice Gover and Melissa Jacobs. A single by Felicia Nagle, an error and a single by Gover increased the lead to 3-0 in the top of the fifth. Four more runs in the top of the sixth upped the margin to 7-0 in the top of the sixth. That inning featured a home run by Yazzie, a double by Gover, singles by Nagle, Kyli Parsons and Rebecca Perez. The final three runs in the top or the seventh scored on singles by Mireya Ulibarri, Yazzie and Nagle and an error.

Winslow had 17 hits in the game led by Nagle's four for four day. Gover was three for four with a double and a home run. Ulibarri was two for three. Gabby Stacey and Yazzie were two for four with Yazzie having a home run.  Pugh was one for three. Perez and Jacobs were one for four. Parsons was one for five.

In the Ganado game, Winslow scored in every inning amassing 17 hits. The game was virtually won after the third inning. The Lady Bulldogs scored once in the first inning, twice in the second and four times in the third. Three more runs in the top of the fourth brought the mercy rule into effect but as the visitors, Winslow batted in the top of the fifth and scored three more runs.

Gover was three for three with two doubles. Parsons was two for two with a pair of doubles. Pugh was also two for two. Stacey was three for four. Jacobs and Yazzie were two for four with Yazzie having a home run and Jacobs a double. Perez was one for two with a triple. Ulibarri and Nagle were one for three.
